Award winning interdisciplinary design studio Alexander Purcell Rodrigues designed the Electra Drive House, a contemporary residence located in Los Angeles.
“On opening the front door your attention is grabbed by the direct sightOn opening the front door your attention is grabbed by the direct sightline through the home and on out to the spectacular city view which on a clear day reaches as far as the Ocean. An open living room, family room and kitchen intertwine with 10ft ceilings and open on to the patio with a pair of 16-ft double-wide floor to ceiling Fleetwoods.” – Alexander Purcell Rodrigues
“An overhanging flat roof not only shades the interior from the sun but also allows the designer to reduce any noticeable transition between inside and out. Grey, scraped and cerused Porcelanosa white oak floors flow seamlessly into solid Pennsylvania bluestone with no height differentiation. Both tonally and spatially the interior and exterior merge into a single unified design feature.” – Alexander Purcell Rodrigues
“The kitchen is one of the most utilised rooms of the home”, said Rodrigues, “I wanted to make a seamless connection between the open-plan living room, the family room and the patio allowing life to smoothly flow between the spaces. To emphasise this, I have created a kitchen that masks its more utilitarian elements allowing it to become a backdrop to the living spaces.” A custom designed modern yet tactile kitchen of floor to ceiling rift white oak incorporates an elegant linear reveal detail removing the clutter of door hardware. A front paneled sub-zero fridge / freezer allows the appliances to disappear from view further creating the sensation that the kitchen is as much a living space as it is a kitchen. A solid white oak counter top large enough to sit six comfortably cantilevers from a seamless Corian island perfect for in-kitchen dining or entertaining whilst cooking. Backsplash transitions are also unseen as Corian runs cleanly from counter top to upper cabinets behind a professional Wolf cook top.” – Alexander Purcell Rodrigues
“Spa-like bathrooms with Axor and Pocelanosa fixtures and finishes are en-suite to every bedroom; with an additional powder room off the central living spaces and home screening room. An architectural modern staircase leads to a junior master suite with sweeping views of the city, a private balcony and a generous bathroom with walk-in shower.
The spacious master suite has double doors that open onto a waterfall-fed custom pool and spa set into the bluestone terrace. In a luxurious master bathroom, refined porcelain wall and floor tiles surround an oversized tub set into a monolithic slab which transitions thorough the shower enclosure to an intimate sitting area. These details are echoed in the two floating vanities on the opposing wall providing ample storage space. Above the contemporary rectilinear sinks, a custom mirror with an etched LED backlit surround has been flush mounted into the tiles.Alexander
